How Gujarat documents are authenticated
Documents issued in Gujarat are typically authenticated by the state government in Gandhinagar before they reach the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA): the Education Department for degrees and marksheets, and the Home Department or General Administration Department for personal documents. The rule follows where a document was issued, not where you live — a degree from a Rajasthan university goes through Rajasthan even if you have settled in Ahmedabad.
Local issuers we often see:
- Education: Gujarat University, Gujarat Technological University (GTU), CEPT University and Nirma University, plus SSC and HSC certificates from the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board. Where an institution has been onboarded to e-Sanad, some records can be verified electronically.
- Personal: birth certificates and death certificates registered with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and marriage certificates.
- Commercial: certificates of origin, memoranda of association and board resolutions, attested by a Chamber of Commerce.
Documents for NRIs and their parents
Two situations come up often. Parents joining children abroad on long-stay or residence visas may be asked for a police clearance certificate along with birth or marriage certificates. And NRIs whose papers were issued here — a single status certificate for marriage abroad, or an affidavit explaining a name variation — can usually ask a family member in Ahmedabad to hand them over.
Affidavits are notarised first and then authenticated in the state where they were notarised. Some destination authorities insist on recently issued certificates, so check dates before you start.

Do I need to visit Gandhinagar myself?
No. We prepare your documents and submit them to the relevant departments on your behalf, then return them by courier. If a step needs your signature or a letter of authorisation, we will tell you in advance.
My son lives in Canada. Can I hand over his documents in Ahmedabad?
Usually, yes. A family member can hand over the original documents, although some steps may need a signed authorisation or a copy of the document holder's passport. We confirm what is needed after reviewing the documents.
Can my degree be verified through e-Sanad?
Possibly. e-Sanad allows electronic verification of some educational documents where the issuing institution has been onboarded. Whether it applies depends on your university and document, and we check this during our review.
Which route applies to documents going to the USA?
The Apostille Convention is in force between India and the USA, so an MEA Apostille is the route when legalisation is requested. Some US processes do not ask for one at all, so check with the receiving authority first.
