Apostille for Oman
Oman has applied the Apostille Convention with India since 30 January 2012, so Indian public documents for Oman take an MEA Apostille instead of embassy legalisation.
Why Indian documents go to Oman
Oman has a long-established Indian community working in engineering, healthcare, education, construction and trade, and families often join a working parent on a family joining visa. Documents are usually needed for the job itself, for bringing the family and finding school places for children, and for recognition of qualifications.
The route for Oman
The Apostille Convention has applied between India and Oman since 30 January 2012. Documents are authenticated at state level or by a Chamber of Commerce and then receive an MEA Apostille, with no embassy stage. That puts Oman with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and apart from the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.
If your checklist mentions an embassy
Some employers and sponsors still describe the process as "embassy attestation", or reuse checklists written for other Gulf countries. If your instructions mention the Omani Embassy or MOFA attestation, share them with us before you start so we can confirm what the receiving authority actually requires.
Practical notes for Oman
- Family joining visas. Expect to need your marriage certificate to sponsor your spouse and your children's birth certificates. Check that names match your passports; where they do not, an affidavit explaining the variation is sometimes accepted.
- School admission. Schools may ask for a child's school leaving certificate from India, sometimes apostilled. Ask the school before you start.
- Degree equivalency. For teaching, healthcare, engineering and some other roles, your degree certificate and transcript may need recognition by the Omani higher education authorities or a professional body, which can also verify them with your university.
- Business. Appointing a local agent, registering a branch or signing a distribution deal may involve a power of attorney, a commercial agreement and your certificate of incorporation.

Usually your marriage certificate and your children's birth certificates, apostilled and often translated into Arabic. Your employer or sponsor will confirm the current list.
