Apostille & Attestation Services in Delhi

SDM attestation, MEA Apostille and embassy legalisation for Delhi and NCR documents, with pickup from home or office and advice on which state applies.

Delhi customers range from families preparing spouse and dependant visas to students heading to the UK, Canada and Australia, and companies with offices across the National Capital Region. We collect documents from homes and offices throughout Delhi and the NCR and return them by courier once the work is complete.

SDM attestation for Delhi personal documents

In Delhi, personal documents usually need attestation by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) before the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issues an Apostille or attestation. This typically applies to:

Which SDM office is involved generally depends on where the document was issued or notarised.

Educational documents

Degrees and marksheets from Delhi institutions — such as the University of Delhi, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia — follow a separate route: verification by the university where required, then authentication at state level before the MEA. Requirements can differ for central universities and for national boards such as CBSE, so we check each document individually. See degree certificates and marksheets.

Delhi, Noida or Gurugram?

The NCR spans three states, and the issuing state authenticates the document. A birth certificate from Noida or Ghaziabad goes through Uttar Pradesh, and an affidavit notarised in Gurugram or Faridabad goes through Haryana — even if you now live in Delhi. Getting this right at the start avoids documents being returned unprocessed.

Embassies in New Delhi

Most foreign embassies are in New Delhi, so documents on the embassy attestation route — for the UAE, Qatar, Egypt or China, for example — are often legalised here after MEA attestation. Each mission sets its own requirements, and some countries also use consulates in other cities. For countries where the Apostille Convention applies with India such as the UK or Canada, an MEA Apostille replaces the embassy step altogether.

Frequently asked questions

What is SDM attestation?

It is authentication by the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. In Delhi it is typically required for personal documents such as birth and marriage certificates, affidavits and powers of attorney before they go to the MEA.

I live in Delhi, but my birth certificate is from Ghaziabad. Which state handles it?

Uttar Pradesh, because the certificate was issued there. The authenticating state follows the issuing authority, not your current address.

Does a police clearance certificate need SDM attestation?

Not usually, if it was issued by a Passport Seva Kendra or Regional Passport Office: that is a central-government document and can typically go to the MEA without state authentication. A certificate issued by the local police is a different case and may need state-level authentication first.

Can you handle embassy legalisation after MEA attestation?

Yes. For countries where the Apostille Convention does not apply with India, we submit documents for embassy or consulate legalisation after MEA attestation. Each mission sets its own requirements, which we check for your destination.

Not sure which route your document needs?

Tell us the document and the destination country. We will confirm the route, the documents we need from you and a quotation — before you send anything.
